the cover boy for body beautiful.
That was catty wasn’t it? Since when had she begun to judge anyone on their appearances alone? It was that evil Kelsey Little’s warped way of thinking, teaching her bad manners. It wasn’t so long ago that Tara was anything but perfect. She couldn’t claim perfection even now. No one could.
Shutting up…
“Yeah, ” he smiled back. “I’m a juror.”
“Like Henry said, I’m your foreman. ” She tipped an imaginary hat at him.
His blue gaze steadied on her. “Man this was something, throwing us together like that without any warning. Cool, that you’re foreman. Think they have enough rules? I’m beginning to wonder if we’ll even actually
see
the contestants, they’re so closed mouthed about where they are on the island.”
Ah, yes. The rules were aplenty. No fraternizing with the contestants, as if that would happen. They were all big-on-brawn, short-on-brain-cell reproduction. Right now, she cared little about anything but some peace and quiet. She didn’t want to talk, but she didn’t want to alienate anyone with a loner attitude either.
“Well, we’re jury members. We’ll be together a lot, so I imagine we’ll know where they are soon enough. ”
Now, go away and leave me alone
.
Let me contemplate death by yarking.
“Are you nervous about being on the show? I mean, the cameras on us all the time and stuff?”
Gab, gab, gab. Tara sighed under her breath and fought off her crankiness. This was going to be a long night, filled with meaningless conversation that she wasn’t up to, but it had to be done. She pinched the bridge of her nose to ward off a headache because it didn’t sound like Andy was going to shut up anytime soon and she was feeling bitchy because she was tired. It wasn’t his fault.
Be nice to your fellow jury member,
she chided herself. Make friends.
Friends, yes, she would make friends, because she was going to need them. “Nervous? Not really. I’m
more
worried about picking the right man for Kelsey. ” Yeah, right, good one. Remember to keep a straight face at all times while lying through your set of newly capped pearly whites. God, she was becoming deft at lying and she hated it.
But Kelsey’s demise will justify your means
, her evil twin reminded her. Straightening her shoulders she smiled at Andy and waited for him to respond with something deep, thereby making her feel as shallow as a baby pool.
Andy shrugged. “I’m just here for the vacation. I really need it. A month in paradise is more than this average Joe can afford and I’m a big fan of the show. Plus, we get paid to do it. Good food, the occasional cool waitress chick in a bikini poolside.” His bushy eyebrows rose as he wiggled them at her.
Yes, the ever-popular cool chicks in bikinis , was too tempting to deny oneself. “I can promise you the cool chicks in bikinis wasn’t the clincher for me, Andy. I really want to see Kelsey find a mate. We went to high school together.” Tara fought to contain herself from adding,
She called me fat ass my entire senior year and then showed half the school said ass on a big screen TV. Of course I want her to have a mate … a primate. A knuckle dragging Neanderthal.
“Cool. What was she like?” Now he was interested.
Tara almost snorted, but caught herself in time by covering her mouth with her hand.
Tell me, Andy, can you spell
horrifying bitch? “She was okay, I guess. We didn’t move in the same circles, but we passed each other at parties, talked here and there.”
Like ships passing in the night…
“She probably won’t even remember me.” Tara felt another twinge in her intestines. They were boycotting her lies by tying themselves in knots that only a seafaring ship’s captain could unravel.
“I think it’s really nice that you want to help find the love of Kelsey’s life. She’s probably going to be really happy to see you again after all these years.” Andy grinned at her.
    Yeah, if only you
