her and squeezed her to his body. Her face tipped up and he found her mouth in a deep, reaching kiss that attempted to show her his appreciation for the hottest hand job he’d ever had in his life.
They were sitting like that, just holding each other, when the announcement came that their flight was cancelled. Mallory lifted her head and looked at him, and they both listened. The airline was giving out hotel vouchers so they could leave the airport for the night.
“Great,” she said with a crooked smile, pushing herself slowly away from him. “I guess that’s it then.”
“Stay here,” he said. “I’ll go get us a voucher before they run out.”
He headed back to the gate, trying to adjust himself inconspicuously. Luckily most people were focused on the airline staff, and some of them weren’t holding back their anger and frustration. Joe winced.
The morning flights were all full and they were put on the noon flight the next day. He took one hotel voucher. Deliberately.
Mallory had slipped her jacket and scarf back on and was running a tube of lip gloss over her lips. Holy hell, look at her now. A few hours ago she’d been all classy sleek perfection, with smooth shiny hair precisely cut to curve under her chin, subtle makeup and professional clothes. Now she had smudgy eyes, swollen lips, and her hair was tousled into a sexy mess around her pretty face. She was even more gorgeous.
He had to give his head a shake and focus. “Let’s move quickly,” he said. “Before everyone else gets out there and grabs all the taxis.” She grabbed her purse, he slung the backpack over his shoulder and reached for her carry-on bag at the same time she did. They exchanged a look, and then with a wry smile she let him take it.
They hit the concourse and headed to the nearest exit.
“It’s spooky here at night,” Mallory said as they strode past darkened businesses. People had curled up in corners and against walls, their heads on backpacks or makeshift pillows, airline blankets covering them.
    “It kinda is.”
When they stepped outside the terminal, it was still snowing, small icy flakes that were hurled into their faces by gusts of wind. There were several people waiting for taxis so as they stood there, Mallory buttoned her jacket and wound the big scarf around her neck. She pulled leather gloves out of her pockets.
“What hotel is it?” she asked.
“Holiday Inn. Nothing fancy. But hey.” He grinned. “There’s a bed.”
“Most hotels have them,” she agreed, eyes sparkling.
They stood looking at each other, snow flying around them, and his body got all hot and his mind went blurry. Yeah, they’d had kind of perverted almost-sex in public, and yeah, that was hot, but whoa, he enjoyed being with her.
“So we’re on the noon flight tomorrow,” he said. “You don’t seem too upset about not getting to L.A. tonight.”
She shrugged. “I’ll get there tomorrow. Unless this turns into some kind of major blizzard.”
“It’s not supposed to. I checked the forecast on my phone last time we were on the plane. It’s a small storm, the problem is they just weren’t ready for it.”
“It is only the end of October.”
Their turn for a taxi arrived and they climbed into the backseat. The driver wanted to make conversation, so they had to tell him the story about their delayed and cancelled flight as he drove them to the nearby hotel.
The lobby was busy, as passengers from affected flights made the trip from airport to hotel, and they had to wait in a line to get a room. Voices echoed off the tile floor and walls. “Want to go sit down?” Joe asked, nodding at a nearby armchair.
    “I’m okay.”
When they went to check in, Joe handed over the single voucher. He felt Mallory’s eyes on him and turned. She lifted an eyebrow. “One room?”
“One room. One bed.” He held her gaze steadily. If she really protested, he wasn’t sure what he’d do.
“That was a little presumptuous,” she
