four with the one I’ve missed.
“Mom, I know I’ve only known him a short time...” I stop
talking because Gladys has a Cheshire cat grin starting to appear across her
face. “What?” I chuckle.
“You knew the moment you met him, didn’t you?” she
questions. I look away not wanting to share. “I knew it,” she says. “Love,” she
adds holding her hand to her heart. “When it hits you, you just have to fall.”
I smile back at her with a stupid loved up grin on my face.
I can't believe I’ve told her how I feel about Tristan, and that we’re getting
married, which makes me think of Gladys and her wedding.
“Mom, you have to get the Hilton on the phone.” I turn to
Malcolm. “Get another date Malcolm maybe they’ll have a cancelation? I don't
want you putting this off for ages because of what’s happened to me.” Malcolm
makes no move, so I know I have to push. “Malcolm, please...” I beg. He looks
across at Gladys, then back at me.
“We are not booking anything until you’re better.” Gladys
tells me firmly. No!
“Tristan said I’m coming out today or tomorrow, if I can
walk out of here I can get to the Hilton, sit in a chair and watch you two say
‘I do’ so there!” I look across at Malcolm again.
“Please,” I beg again. “I’ll be there, I know I will’ – “Oh
Coral! Don't be so silly, there’s no way you’re going to be out of here that
soon.” Gladys chides.
“Yes I will,” I scoff. “Look, I have every intention of
seeing you two get married, even if I’m only there for a few hours, then go
home, you are making another booking today!” I bark. If I could stamp my feet I
would.
“But darling, I don't think we’ll get another date,” Gladys softly
says.
“But you don't know that?” I argue. I turn to Malcolm cock
up one eyebrow and give him a look that says
what-are-you-still-standing-here-for? Malcolm smiles, then stands up and takes
his mobile out of his pocket.
“I’ll sort it Coral,” he says and walks out the room. I
really hope they can get another date, sooner rather than later.
“Mom, you shouldn’t have cancelled it without speaking to me
first.” I admonish.
“And how was I supposed to do that with you lying here...in
this bed...unconscious, so still...” She starts choking up again. I guess
she has a point!
“Well, let’s hope they can get you another date.” I say
feeling guilty. After a few minutes Malcolm walks back in the room looking
downhearted – Great, no dates left!
“No luck?” I grumble. He looks across to Gladys then back to
me. Taking a deep breath, he walks over to Gladys, gets down on one knee and
takes her hand in his.
“We have another date Ms Stevens?” Gladys gasps with glee.
“Oh Malcolm!” She cries and falls into his arms. The biggest
smile spreads across my face.
I look across at Rob, who rolls his eyes at the whole
situation. Then throws the Hello magazine on the floor that’s been hiding the
Wedding magazine he’s been secretly reading.
He casually flicks a page and winks at me – Git! I want
to know what dress he’s found.
    “When?” I ask Malcolm.
“In a month’s time,” he beams. “Cancellation, just like you
said Coral.” I better be back to normal by then!
“Right, well now that’s all sorted. I would like to know the
whereabouts of my fiancé?” I’m missing him so much.
“He should be here shortly we’ve only just had dinner. Tristan
said he was going back to his to shower and change.” Gladys says. – Hmm,
maybe he’s fallen asleep? “I made my famous steak and ale pie,” she adds rubbing
her stomach.
My mouth instantly starts watering.“With puff pastry?” I question.
    “Of course darling,” Gladys beams.
My face falls. I could really eat that right now – I’m
ravenous!
“Could have bought me some,” I grumble.
“Are you even allowed it?” Malcolm questions.
I cock one eyebrow up at him. “Malcolm, right now I wouldn’t
care what was put in
