hat big butt was on full display as she dipped down to collect a piece of mail that fell on the floor. Jack observed with a mix of disapproval and arousal that it did not appear she was wearing much more than a thong in her skintight Lululemon capris. As she did it, Ashley glanced back over her shoulder toward the foyer and smiled coyly. Jack wanted a penny for her thoughts, bent over like that and smiling. Her cute dimpled smile made Jack think of summer church picnics and high school pep rallies and all the good memories they shared together. Make-up wasn’t allowed growing up in their religious community but it seemed she had taken it up recently; her blue eyes were made ever more piercing today with a touch of eyeliner and mascara. The rest of her outfit wouldn’t have been allowed either, Jack noted primly; she wore a black half-tank top that pushed up her buoyant breasts, displaying an intoxicating dose of cleavage while leaving exposed her flat tummy down to the crest of her pelvis.
Jack often felt that his otherwise wholesome Ashley would subconsciously invite hungry looks from strange men with the form fitting outfits she chose. He would have to talk to her about that, once she became his fiancé, but for now he would watch her with baited breath as she swiftly brought herself upright and made her way into the kitchen.
Ashley toss ed her mail onto the kitchen counter as she turned to open her fridge door. She did not appear to notice the rose. Plus the mail landed, much to Jack’s dismay, right on top of his beautifully written note. Jack succeeded in keeping himself quiet as a mouse as he bit his fist, anxious for his plan to get back on track.
She emerged from the fridge with two water bottles, placing them on the counter but once again not looking down to see the rose. Instead she turned to face the foyer, leaning her back onto the counter, reaching behind her head and removing her ponytail, shaking out her luxurious hair that landed at the middle of her back.
“Why are you looking at me like that?” She said with that smile.
Jack’s heart stopped. Had she seen him? Was his whole marriage proposal somehow compromised? How could she have known? And was he supposed to answer if she was still facing the entrance to her apartment?
The mystery was solved when from behind the pillar blocking Jack’s view of the entrance came a low, masculine growl.
“You know why I’m looking at you like that.”
Jack thought the man’s response was a bit forward and he was pleased to see Ashley turn her back to the man while rolling her eyes.
“Give it a rest. You know I have a boyfriend.”
    “I know. I just don’t care.”
The man stepped into the apartment and Jack was shocked to see it was a black male of intimidating proportions. He was towering, broad shouldered and handsome in a kingly, majestic way. He too was in workout gear, his t-shirt sweaty around the collar and chest, like he had just returned from a run. His legs were lean and powerful. His arms were thick muscled biceps. Despite his size and strength, he walked up to Ashley with a dancer’s fluidity. This was a man who knew the samba.
As he approached her, Ashley spun back to face him, playfully poking a water bottle into his chest.
“Hold it right there, big fella. Take this Fiji bottle because it’s all you’re getting. Understand?”
The man stared down at her long enough for the moment to get uncomfortable. Jack held his breath. This man seemed a tad aggressive, Jack fretted, but Ashley held her ground, cocking her eyebrow in the air as if in warning to some kind of unruly beast. Finally this stranger sullenly grabbed the water bottle, tore the cap off and guzzled heedlessly, his eyes glowering down at her like she was next on the menu.
Ashley smirked and took a swig of her own water, good humoredly glowering right back at him. It was hard to tell from the closet but it seemed to Jack that these two were having some kind of a moment, a
