Cursed
on my own. Being a
little more confident will help.”
    “Or
it will get you into trouble,” he said dryly.
    “I
will be fine. You shouldn’t worry so much,” I said brushing him off as I walked
to the bed to retrieve another knife.
    “I
worry about people I love. Especially when those people are reckless like you,”
he said softly.
    I
looked at him a little caught off guard. Tommy mentioned Drake loved me before,
but I never took him seriously. I considered Drake a close friend, but I never
considered him more than that. He never really acted like more than that. I
sighed and looked away. “I will try to be as safe as possible. I won’t put
myself in any unnecessary danger.”
    He
smiled. “I know you won’t because I am coming with you, and don’t think you can
run. You and I are linked now. You can no longer hide from me.”
    I
scowled. “You need to stay here where you are safe. I don’t need you getting
hurt because of me,” I protested.
    “And
like you; I don’t care what anyone else says, and that includes you,” he said
haughtily.
    I
rolled my eyes. “Fine be a pain, but you better not get hurt,” I said grumpily.
I was planning on sneaking out so he wouldn’t follow and get hurt, but he was
going to make it impossible. I walked out of the room past him, and he
followed. He really wasn’t going to let me leave on my own. I didn’t have a
choice. I was going to have to let him come along. He would just be one more
thing I was worried about, and that could be a deadly distraction for me.

    We
cut through the woods, and made it to town in record time. I found that I
wasn’t as hot or breathless like I normally would have been. Being a werewolf
did have its perks when I wasn’t in wolf form. I was useless in wolf form,
especially with Drake.
    “What
exactly is the plan? Who are you going to beat information out of?” Drake asked
amused as we walked through the dark alleys.
    I
smiled at him. “I was thinking Julian, but we will see what else comes along.”
    “You
think Julian is still around?” he asked skeptically.
    “If
there is still money to be made, then he is still around,” I said lowing my
voice as I listened. I was trying to go down the darkest alleys where Julian,
or another mercenary would be more likely to strike.
    I
hesitated when Cornelius appeared in front of me. He looked even worse than he
had before. He was dirty again, and his face was sunken in. He had a wild look
in his eyes, almost like he was crazed. I could tell he wasn’t feeding like he
was supposed to.
    “Shit,”
Drake muttered under his breath. He could tell by Cornelius’s state that things
were bad. Maybe now he would understand why I was going against everyone to
save Cornelius.
    “Cornelius,
it’s me, Lillian,” I said cautiously. I moved to get closer to him, but Drake
caught my hand.
    “Lillian,
don’t. This isn’t Cornelius. I can tell he isn’t in his right mind,” Drake said
sounding worried.
    “That
is why I am here,” I said quietly. “Now do you understand why I did what I did?”
I asked him as I looked at him.
    He
looked from me back to Cornelius, then he nodded. “I get it, believe me, but he
could kill us both.”
    I
looked at Cornelius. I didn’t believe he would hurt me. He got rough with me
before because of the curse, not because he wanted to hurt me. “He won’t hurt
me,” I said wishing I believed what I was saying. I had to do something, but I
didn’t want Drake hurt.
    “Bite
me, Drake,” I said softly.
    He
looked at me confused. “Now isn’t the time to play,” he growled.
    I
rolled my eyes. “Just do it,” I ordered.
    Drake
hesitantly brought my wrist to his mouth. I winced when he bit down. Cornelius
shifted his eyes to Drake’s mouth on my wrist, when he smelled my blood. After
a few seconds Drake released my wrist.
     I
moved forward, and offered Cornelius my wrist. “Cornelius, do you know who
cursed you?” I asked hoping he would be able to tell me
