Cursed
Aubrey sitting in a chair across
from my bed. “You look well for someone who just shifted for the first time.”
    “It
sucked, but I can handle it,” I said quietly as I shut the door. I wasn’t
entirely sure why he was there. I was pretty sure it had to do with the fact
that he didn’t want me going after the coven that cursed Cornelius. He knew I
would be going as soon as I shifted.
    “Have
you changed your mind about going on a suicide mission?” he asked softly.
    “No,
and it’s technically not a suicide mission if I can’t die,” I said trying to
make light of the situation.
    “This
is serious Lillian,” Aubrey growled as he got to his feet.
    “I
know that. I was just trying to make light of a bad situation,” I said feeling
a little chided. I didn’t understand why he insisted on treating me like a
child.
    “I
think you need to be with Victoria and Oliver. They are the only ones who can
truly protect you,” he said quietly.
    “They
want to control me, not protect me. There is a big difference between the two.
I can protect myself, I always have,” I said starting to get irritated. I
didn’t like that he kept trying to get me to go back to Victoria and Oliver.
    “They
are trying to control you to protect you. You are always so compulsive. You act
before you think simply because your feelings are involved. Do you really think
Cornelius would want you to do this?” he argued.
    “I
don’t know Aubrey. If you were hurt would you want me to do everything in my
power to help you? Or would you prefer I cover my own ass, and forget about
you?” I asked angrily.
    He
didn’t respond immediately. He was obviously considering the scenario. Either
that, or he was trying to come up with another plan of attack. It didn’t really
matter what he said. He wasn’t going to change my mind. I loved Cornelius, and
I wasn’t going to let him go so easily.
    “I
would want you to stay safe. Everything we have done was to keep you safe,” he
said quietly. He sounded like he was pleading with me. I was guessing begging
was his last attempt at convincing me to run and hide.
    “I
can’t stay safe forever. If you want to help me, tell me what you know about
the people who cursed Cornelius,” I countered hoping he would cooperate.
    He
straightened and his expression went blank. “I will not tell you anything,” he
growled then disappeared. I was getting used to his tantrums. He didn’t like
that he couldn’t get his way.
    I
sighed in annoyance. I was going to find everything out on my own. It was going
to be difficult, but it had to be done. I had to get Cornelius back. Getting
him back was the reason for everything I had done. It all would have been
wasted if I tucked tail and ran like Aubrey wanted me to do.

    I
woke up at sunset. I showered and dressed. Despite my new abilities as a
werewolf, I was going to bring weapons along with me. I looked at my reflection
in the mirror as I adjusted my clothes. I felt stronger than I had in a few
days. My blood seemed to flow hotter through my veins. My heart beat a little
faster, and I was full of energy. There was a slight feeling of invincibility
at the back of my mind. I kind of wondered if Drake felt the same way.
    “It’s
called arrogance, and it will get you killed,” Drake said as if he heard my thoughts.
I turned and looked at him. He was leaning against my doorjamb watching me.
     “Can
you read my mind?” I asked defensively.
    He
smiled. “No, I can tell by your posture. You are not invincible, Lillian.
Thinking that way will get you hurt.”
    I
rolled my eyes and looked back at my reflection. “I never said I was
invincible. I just feel it, and I was wondering if you felt the same way.”
    “Not
really. I did when I was younger, then I got my ass kicked a few times, and the
feeling went away,” he said amused.
    I
turned and smiled at him. “Well I think it might work in my favor for now. No
one will tell me anything so I have to go find answers
