answer so he must have something to hide, she reasoned watching him wrestle with his thoughts.  He was such a gorgeous man and she was desperately attracted to him so the last thing she wanted to find out was that he had a wife and particularly one like the brunette, Lisa.

“You imagine that being married is something I might conveniently forget so I can enjoy fucking you?   He asked her caustically.  “Seriously Gina I’m not that shallow,” he kissed her hand again and sucked at her fingers in the same way he had in the restaurant earlier that day.

“And the person who told you this, that would be one of Carlotti’s crew, I suppose,” he added grim faced.  “Well, whoever did tell you this titillating piece of gossip is a little out of date,” he admitted.  “I did have a wife, for two years, in fact, and just so that you know all the facts, I was married to Lisa Carlotti, Ben’s sister.”

Gina’s heart was racing - so she was the one and Charlie’s little bombshell wasn’t a lie after all.  The truth straight from his lips stung.  When Charlie had so eagerly shared this knowledge with her she’d thought he was lying.  But it was true Matthew had been married, and to one of the Carlotti family as well.

“I saw her, with you, at his birthday do,” she recalled.  “You didn’t behave as if you were married.”

“That’s because we’re not, not anymore.”  Matthew corrected her.  “The lovely, raven haired Lisa wasn’t easy to live with.  We split amicably enough and so we’r e friends now, and that’s all.”

    “Do you love her?”

“No, Gina.  I don’t love anyone and particularly not Lisa.”

“But you must have loved her once.  I mean you married her.”

“Yes, I think I must have, once.  When we first met I was young and she dazzled me,” he admitted giving Gina a rare insight into his emotional history.

Dazzled him , what did that mean and would he ever think the same about her?

“So what happened, why did your relationship break down,” Gina asked, the words flying from her lips before she could stop them?

“Because Lisa is a scheming bitch who lives under Ben’s thumb.  And when I really got to know her I realised we were incompatible.”

“What do you mean,” Gina asked?  “When I saw you both you looked really good together.”  She recalled the tall brunette with the stunning figure and model perfect face.  She appeared to be the ideal partner for someone like Matthew

Matthew looked at her and shook his head.

“What we look like together has nothing to do with it.  She’s a hard, difficult woman so I divorced her – end of story,” he added emphatically.

“But there must have been more to it surely.  But I suppose being the sister of your biggest rival must have meant her loyalties were divided.”

“Lisa is only ever loyal to herself, so no, the problems weren’t to do with business.”

Now Gina was curious, what was it then that had come between them.

    “Was she unfaithful,” she asked?

“She wouldn’t dare, and before you ask neither was I,” he confirmed.  “Really Miss Deverell your curiosity will get you into trouble one day.”

“The fact that you’ve been married is a big deal, Matthew and I want to get to know you better.  So I can’t help being curious, can I?”

He ran his thumb around the outline of her cheek before settling it on her full, pink lips and rubbing lightly.  The movement was exactly the same as he’d used earlier on a more intimate part of her anatomy and elicited a soft moan as Gina closed her eyes and felt the immediate thrill of sexual need.

“We’re going to get to know each other very intimately indeed, so don’t worry Gina,” he promised.

Goodness, he’s deliberately tormenting me again in that special way of his, she thought.  That gentle, little promise seared and thrilled through
