just because we got
carried away.”
John backed her up until she felt the desk behind her then
took her face in his hands and looked her in the eye. “It’s okay. I’ll be able
to decipher my notes tomorrow.” John talked over any protest Leigh wanted to
make. “And I can reprint those pages from Quinton’s email. Quit worrying.” He
kissed her quickly on the lips then her nose.
He slid his hands down the sides of her neck then over her
shoulders and down her arms. He took both of Leigh’s hands in his and brought
them up to his mouth and placed a kiss on each.
“Now, can we go home before someone walks in and sees that
luscious body of yours and I have to gouge their eyes out with a letter
opener?” John asked.
Leigh was startled by the serious tone of his voice. “Yes,
we probably should get going.”
She met John halfway for one last, quick kiss, then slipped
past him to go find her clothes. Her skirt was on the couch, but she wasn’t
sure where she’d left her blouse. She scooped up her shoes from the floor in
front of the couch then nabbed her skirt as she stood upright. Behind her, John
laughed. It was a loud, belly laugh.
With her brows furrowed in question, Leigh looked over her
shoulder at him. He had zipped his pants and buttoned his shirt most of the
way, but his belt was still hanging loose around his waist. She had no idea
what had come over him all of a sudden. “What’s so funny?”
John seemed to struggle to keep his laughter in check, but
wasn’t succeeding. He walked toward her then grasped both her hands. As he
failed to choke back his laughter, he said, “I don’t think re-reading the notes
I’d written on those pages will be a problem.” He leaned over and looked at the
back side of her right hip. “It appears that you have a slightly blurry copy on
your butt.”
“I what?” Leigh exclaimed. She tugged her hands free and
twisted around, trying to see.
John held her in place by her hips as he knelt beside her.
He laughed even harder as he peered at the fuzzy blue ink spots on her butt.
“Good God,” she muttered. “That’s rather embarrassing.”
Grinning from ear to ear, John looked up at her. “Yeah, but
no one other than me is going to see it, so who cares?” He placed a loud,
playful kiss where the ink stained her skin then stood to his full height.
“Well thank God for that.” She licked one of her fingers and
tried to rub off some of the ink.
John grabbed her hand and kissed it. “I’ll help you scrub it
off in the shower after we get home.”
Leigh grinned, giving in to the humor of the situation. “I
believe I’ll take you up on that offer.” With a twinkle in her eye, she
challenged him, “Whoever gets home first gets to pick which soap we use?”
    “Absolutely.”
