Halloween Treat
Halloween Treat

Veronica MacGrath turned sideways in the full-length mirror, took one look, and groaned. When she’d ordered a Halloween witch outfit from Party Town Rentals , she was expecting a crooked hat, cape, and a wart on the nose witch, not a ‘wickedly sexy one’. This was one hot looking get up and there was no way she was leaving her apartment.
Dammit. She had to. She was the new hire to the management team of Ashcroft Accounting and this was her chance to meet the rest of the staff on a personal level. Hopefully tonight would also include spending time with her steaming hot co-worker, Robert. Dark hair, blue eyes, and an ass she could ride in any rodeo. She came a long ways from her Midwest, small town days, but she did miss cowboys… and their Levis. This reminded her once again that Seattle was her new home, not Prairie Valley.
She’d read through the company’s bylaws. There didn’t seem to be any rules about staff fraternizing, and what better time to get to know Robert than at this party. With everyone in costume, there could be a bit of role-playing. Her original plan was to show her fun side and see where things went with Robert. None of the plans she’d formulated had her looking like the sex witch of the South.
She tried to pull the hemline of the skirt lower but it wouldn’t budge. With the tight black stretchy material, she could barely slip on a pair of panties. She’d have to give up eating for the evening. There was no room for digestion and her in this dress. As far as sitting, she’d better wear comfortable heels because she would be on them all night. If she sat down, she needed cross her legs in a hurry, or she’d give her co-workers a show.
Veronica sighed and slid on the sequined black hat and veil. She tipped her head and looked at her reflection. Maybe this getup was better than the haggy witch was. If she could catch Robert’s eye with this dress, he shouldn’t be too much work to get in bed. The costume made her feel sexy and self-assured.
The next few hours would tell.
Veronica picked up her black shawl, clutch, and car keys, and then headed out to the parking garage.

The pounding music and flashing lights assaulted Veronica’s ears and eyes as she entered The Underground. Sweat mixed with feathers, leather, and lace made for an odd mix of smells. Squinting in the dim light, she didn’t spot anyone from work she recognized as she glanced around the club. An empty spot opened at the bar and she grabbed it smiling at all the festive costumed patrons gyrating on the dance floor and visiting in booths.
Storm Troopers. X-men. Pirates. She loved Halloween. You could be someone else for the night.
Flagging down the bartender, she ordered a Long Island Iced Tea. She would get her drink on now, stop at one, and just ride that happy buzz the rest of the night.
Veronica sipped the cocktail and hoped that at any moment she would spot a face in the crowd she recognized. The drink was stronger than she expected, and it made her a little light headed. She wavered on her feet when she tried to stand. She grasped the edge of the bar until the room straightened, looped her purse on her shoulder and headed out to the dance floor.
The music vibrated and washed over her. The old Billy Idol song popped into her mind, Dancing with Myself . She didn’t need anyone but herself to have a good time. She giggled and shook her butt to the DJ’s beat.
Veronica danced backwards and heard a deep “Umph” as she stepped on someone. Slowly pivoting, she looked up almost a foot and into deep blue eyes. In the Halloween theme, the man behind her wore doctor’s scrubs and a surgical mask covering half of his face.
“It’s you,” she said, and swallowed.  “I was hoping you’d be here.”

Braylon had no idea who this woman was, but getting to know this cute little witch a little better brought out all kinds of Pagan thoughts. As co-owner of The Underground , women hit on him
