thank you and appreciated the gesture as she went back to Colton.
“Ready?” she asked. He glanced down at his stained top and sighed.
“I guess. Who was she?” he said, looking at Angelica as she walked away.
Ana explained that it was her best friend and roommate, and told him of their plan to move to Newtown. Colton nodded and then placed his arm around Ana’s shoulder as they went to the Ferris wheel. The line was long so they had to wait for a while before they reached the front. The large circular wheel rose high above their heads, and it was most likely the most impressive thing that had ever been in Trinity Falls.
The moon was a crescent but the stars shone brightly, although a chilled breeze became present. Ana slipped her cardigan on and wrapped her arms around herself. Colton noticed and took off his leather jacket, placing it around her shoulders without any hesitation. The gesture made her smile and it warmed her up. She placed her nose against the leather and inhaled deeply. It smelled like him, and all she wanted to do was wrap it around her naked body and drown in his masculine scent.
“You’re going to miss nights like these,” he said.
“What do you mean?”
“When you move to Newtown you’re going to be in the city, and thanks to all the light pollution you’re not going to be able to see the night sky as clearly. That’s another reason why I built my log cabin just outside the city, so I could get the full view. It’s so peaceful to just sit back and look up at the stars that sometimes I end up spending hours outside.”
“Well, I’ll just have to come to your cabin at night then so I can see the stars.”
“So now you want to come to my cabin?”
“It’s a possibility,” she teased, and leaned up to give him peck on the cheek. Her lips caught his rough stubble but the scratchy hair only served to turn her on. They edged forward at a steady rate as the Ferris wheel creaked and turned above them.
“What’s your favorite constellation?” she asked.
“That one up there,” he said, pointing.
When she said that she couldn’t see Colton placed his hands around her head and moved it so that she was staring in the right direction. She looked at the stars and noticed the pattern, but she didn’t know which constellation it was.
“It’s Ursa Minor, the Little Bear,” he said, and they spent a few moments gazing up at it.
They were lost in a trance, transfixed by the starry night sky, when the person operating the Ferris wheel called them up. Colton stepped into the seat first and then helped Ana in. They rotated up and as they passed the tops of trees they looked in awe at the world surrounding them. In the distance they could see the bright lights of Newtown, and from there Ana could trace a line back to where the wedding lodge must have been. She looked out over Trinity Falls and saw the outlines of her neighborhood and all the familiar places she had known her whole life.
Beyond that lay the rest of the world, ripe for exploration and discovery. Above sat the glorious stars, looking down on her under their watchful eye. It seemed that they accompanied her on the most important parts of her life and she wondered whether they acted as her guardian angel. The moon was largely hidden so it was not so bright that night, but Colton and Ana both cuddled up to one another as they gazed out over the world.
Chapter 4
When they reached the top of the Ferris wheel the seat swung and jolted them for a moment. This frightened Ana and Colton held onto her tightly. He held her close and squeezed her tightly when he felt the rapid beating of her heart, and at first it was due to the shock but then it was all down to being held by him. She looked up at him with wide eyes and as they stared at each other time seemed to stand still.
The noises of the fair were distant down below, and it was like they were flying
