Chapter 1

Jade pulled her cloak that Marion had obtained tightly around herself. The lecher of an inn keeper had stared rather obviously at her chest when they had all come in to find rooms for the night. Annoyed that the chivalrous divine knight had not said anything to the man in response to his actions, she thought it was for the best anyway. If he were to act normally they would stand out from the rest of the lowlives in this town, which in turn would make it near impossible to get any information from this sort.
After she was finished rationalizing why she should be happy that he wasn’t defending her as he had Kern, she wondered if the elven girl could carry out the little mission she had given her. In the moment it took Jade to glance out the window, the girl had vanished already. Hopefully all went well and Keegan hadn’t abandoned his post at the edge of town. The Larin agent was the one who had struck up the deal with the Lord Monfrel in the first place. He was the smuggler that her father relied on to get him the latest weapons and news from the other realms.
Marion turned to her then, showing her the flash of keys. “Let’s go set out packs in the room and freshen up. I could use a bath after being on the road for so long.”
In the room she would share with Kern, Jade paced back and forth in front of the window nervously. The twilight sun had set already and the moon was riding high in the dark cloudless sky. She could hear the sound of splashing water from the adjoined room which was Marion’s. He was already taking his bath, which meant she would have to act soon. There would be no better time to sneak into his room and seduce him then when he was relaxing.
His guard would hopefully be lowered because of this and he would be more willing to accept her advances. If everything went smoothly then she would be able to slip out once he was asleep and make her way to Keegan’s.
“This shouldn’t be so hard to do.” She said aloud, wishing the feeling of butterflies in her stomach would evaporate. This was one tactic that she wasn’t familiar with and wouldn’t be doing if her situation wasn’t so dire. Grindalor was probably her last chance to form some way of escape from the jelwin. In theory this was supposed to be simple.
Maybe she should get undressed as well? She didn’t have anything like night clothes to change into, but she couldn’t stand the thought of walking in there bare bottomed. Hearing a large splash of water that sounded like him standing, she panicked and flew to the door. With her hand on the door handle, she paused and looked back at her room, trying to think of some other way, but she couldn’t come up with anything else. This was her only recourse.
Frustrated with the emotions that were causing her hesitation, she slid one of the shoulders of her dress down to reveal smooth alabaster flesh and opened the door. Stepping in boldly as if she belonged there, her eyes were immediately drawn to his commanding presence. He was standing in front of the fire holding a glass of wine, and he was still completely naked. Rivets of fire light played across his body, casting shadows in the planes between his muscles. As she stood in awe of him, her eyes were eventually drawn down over his chest and then his lower abdomen by the cascading, fire colored water droplets from the bath.
She must have made a startled noise when her gaze found the rather large evidence of his manhood, as his gaze swung over to where she stood. Jade could see his strong muscles in his shoulders stiffen when he saw who was there in his room, and also noticed that wasn’t the only part of him that went rigid. Feeling like her whole face must be
