needed it the most. "Dex,
please!"
    His face
was suddenly up close to hers, his eyes in that unforgivable,
stoney place they had been before. "No," he said.
    Tears
filled her eyes and, God help her, Melody couldn't be strong and
hold them back like she wanted. They spilled freely down her face,
and her shame at her own needs mixed in with the humiliation of her
position, along with the heartbreak of being told no when she
needed him to say yes spilled all around her until she swam in
loathing for the stag above her.
    "I hate
you!" she screamed. Melody threw all her strength in trying to buck
him off, but he was too strong.
    "Good!
Because I hated you when they denied me sex. I wasn't so much as
allowed access to a doe while they evaluated whether or not I would
be safe to be sold again. They talked about putting me down, and I
wanted them to just to make it end."
    He was
going to do this to her all night, she realized with a horrified
jerk. This was her true punishment. He would bring her to the
brink, again and again, but always denying her the release she
craved, knowing her need was growing worse, more agonizing and
desperate, each time he did so.
    And as a
stag, he had suffered this when he was refused sex. Melody knew how
stag were created, knew their laws and punishments, but had never
before realized the cruelty of forcing a being to be without sex,
when they were engineered to want it so much.
    If this
was torture for her, it must have been hell on earth for
him.
    "I'm
sorry," she cried. "I'm so sorry."
    "Glad to
hear it, but I'm not done with you yet."

Chapter Four

    "You've
kept doe here before. Go find one of their pretty things to wear
and don't come back here until you look presentable."
He was back in client mode, ordering her around and saying she
didn't look right. His eyes scanned over her body, as though the
dress she currently wore — if that was even the right word for
it at the moment — was something of an annoyance because it didn't turn him
on.
    It was
irritating and she fought the urge to attack him again. At the same
time, strung out on lust like she was, her body humming and
desperate for more of his touch, she had no choice but to
obey.
    Maybe
that was the point, and how most humans kept control of their stag.
Dex did want her to know what this felt like, after all.
    Melody
flew up from the bed, all but pushing Dex off her and running for
the door.
    "Stop."
    Melody
froze, her hand on the latch to the door leading out.
    What did
he--
    Oh,
right. She spun around, tight smile on her face, and gave a sort of
little mock curtsy. "As you command, master,"
    She
turned to go again.
    "That's
not what I wanted,"
    Fingers
clenching into her palms, she made a slow turn, as thought her
spine was a steel rod. "Yes, master?"
    His
smile looked a little too evil for her liking. "Find something to
wear, and bring it back here, but I don't want to see you wearing
it when you come back."
    She
couldn't believe what she was hearing. "What?"
    That
look on his face, the one that said he was holding all the cards
and well knew it, never wavered from his perfect features. "Go pick
out something nice to wear for me, strip out of your clothes, walk
back here, and then put it on in front of me."
    "You
want me to walk through my house naked? What if Leah sees
me?"
    "Why
does it matter if a human sees you naked?"
    He was
purposely pretending he didn't know why the thought of walking
through her house naked would bother her. Guess doe never had to go
through this as they never cared who saw them with nothing on. In
fact, naked was the costume of choice for them, as it practically
guaranteed more people willing to satisfy their ever present
hunger.
    Still,
pretending was one thing, she wasn't a doe, and the thought of
letting someone, whose cheques Melody signed, see her walking
around in her birthday suit, was enough to get her heart
racing.
    She
couldn't figure out if that was good or not.
    "Hurry
back. I'm already
