Robin and Winston together to get them both out of her hair at the same time. Elizabeth also felt that Robin deserved to know the truth instead of being duped into believing a fantasy of Jessicaâs creation. âRobin, itâs hard to tell you this, but Winâs been interested in my sister for quite some time. I donât know if heâs really ready to get involved with someone else.â
A momentary look of concern crossed Robinâs face as Elizabeth spoke, but it was followed quickly by a sigh of relief. âDonât worry, Liz, I know all about Jessica and Winston. She told me there was never anything much to it. Theyâre just friends.â
Elizabeth shook her head slightly. âI donât think you heard what I said. Itâs possible that Win isnât ready for youâor for that matter, anybody.â
âBut Jessica told meââ
âSheâs not right all the time. Look, Iâm sure Win thinks youâre nice. I just donât want you to get your hopes up. I know Winstonâs really hung up on Jess. The last thing you want is a boy on the rebound.â
âNo,â Robin hedged. âYouâre wrong, Liz.â
âYou mean you think heâs definitely over Jess?â Elizabeth asked.
âNo,â said Robin, smiling. âI mean Iâd definitely take him on the rebound.â They both laughed.
âIn that case, I hope Iâm wrong for your sake,â Elizabeth said. She was beginning to like Robin. âBy the way, got any plans for Saturday night?â
âNot yet.â
âWell, if nothing comes up, why donât you join Todd and me? Weâre going to a club down in Sand Pines to see The Droids.â
âI donât know. I donât want to tag along on your date.â
âItâs not an actual âdateâ date. Iâm writing an article for The Oracle on The Droids, so itâs more like an assignment for me. I think it might be a good place for you to meet some guys. You donât have to give me an answer now, but promise me youâll consider it, OK?â
Robin thought a moment before answering. âOK,â she said. Then she got up and headed for the door. âIâd better be getting home now. Youâll tell Jessica I stopped by, wonât you?â
âDonât worry,â Elizabeth said with a gleam in her eye. âYou can be sure Iâll tell her.â

Elizabeth was taking that nightâs dinner of roast chicken out of the oven when Jessica showed up. Following the aroma into the kitchen, Jessica purred, âUmm, something smells good.â
âI gather youâre going to grace us with your presence tonight?â
âOf course. I live here. Oh, and thanks for making dinner tonight. I promise Iâll make it up to you sometime.â
âWith you, âsometimeâ could be around the year 2000. I wonât hold my breath,â Elizabeth retorted.
âLook, Iâm really sorry I was late. I ⦠um ⦠had something important to do.â
âI know. Something called Bruce Patman.â
Jessica looked genuinely surprised. âYou and your intuition.â
âActually, Robin stopped by earlier. She said you and she were supposed to get together this afternoon.â
âWas that today?â Jessica feigned forgetfulness. âI must have mixed up the dates.â
âYou really disappointed her,â Elizabeth chided.
âSheâll get over it.â Jessica shrugged, unconcerned. âIt was just a trip to the mall.â
âI have a feeling it was more than âjust a tripâ to her. The least you could have done was told her you couldnât make it.â
âOh, sheâll understand. We can do her makeover anytimeâthough I do admit, the sooner the better. Honestly, Liz, I simply forgot. Bruce came up to me right after the last bell and took me
