can't.”
    Jenna frowned. “You're... you're serious?”
    “I can't let you out of my sight. If the Hillrunners get ahold of you, it's game-over. The only way I can make sure that they don't breed with you is if you're near me at all times. I'm sorry. You have full use of my house. It's spacious and you'll have everything you need. When this blows over... if this blows over... you'll be free to go.”
    She was dumbstruck. “Wait just a damn minute!” she cried, standing up. “You can't just keep me prisoner here! I'm a free woman! You can't just keep me in this house against my will, you know!”
    He shot her a fierce glance. “Can't I, though?”
    Jenna fell back a few paces. “Well...” Her mind raced about in the hopes of finding some means to escape. And then it occurred to her. “Well, if you don't let me go, and we're spending all of this time together, then what makes you think you'll be able to control yourself?” She took a step forward, eyeing his body with interest. He had a well-sculpted physique, though he was rough-looking and wounded. The unmistakable curve of his muscles beneath the tattered clothing drove her wild, despite the situation at hand. She couldn't help but ogle him a bit as she continued. “And you're hurt, too.” She reached out and caressed his bare arm, her fingers tracing a scratch along his forearm. “We should leave here and get you medical help.”
    He yanked his arm away and snarled. “Get your hands off of me!”
    She grinned. “Why? Because you don't know whether you'll be able to help yourself? You want me to stay in your sights, but you don't want me to get too close? Is that it?” She took another step towards him.
    Todd threw his hand up, blocking her from advancing further. “That's enough,” he barked. “My wounds will heal quickly. These cuts are nothing, understand? I don't need you looking after me. You're not my damn mother, so just stay quiet, got it?”
    Still, she persisted. She took his hand and rubbed his rough fingers gently. He's either going to let me go to keep from making the prophecy come true or... I'm going to have a good time while I'm here. Jenna brought his hand up to her lips and planted a warm kiss on it. “Well, let me help you. If you're protecting me, then I need you to stay strong.”
    He shuddered, his hand going momentarily limp. The hair on his arm bristled, as though charged with electricity, and his breathing quickened noticeably. “What are you doing?” he asked, pulling his hand away and rubbing at it. “You don't know what the hell you're getting yourself into.”
    Ever since she'd first laid eyes on him, Jenna had found him attractive. Now that she knew more about him, it was easier to write off his idiosyncrasies. He was a wolf, a proud alpha, and evidently wasn't very good at relating to humans. Though his people had lived amongst them for the past century, he still seemed used to treating people like livestock, mere pawns in his own game. Still, this didn't diminish his attractiveness. She'd have been a hypocrite to deny it. The prospect of venturing out of the house and being pursued by the ferocious Hillrunners didn't sit well with her, though neither did the idea of remaining Todd's prisoner. Her pent up lust had been inexplicably roused, however. In the way he denied himself, the way he tried to disregard her, despite his deep-seated, primal desire for her, was extremely sexy for some reason. Watching him struggle against his prophetic urges, his powerful body nearly bare, she couldn't help but become horny.
    And he seemed to notice it, too. As her excitement grew, so too did his apparent discomfort. He would take a few steps away from her and take a deep breath, trying to collect himself, only to peer back at her with the same hungry eyes. His plan had probably seemed like a good one at first. All he wanted to do was keep her in his sights. But it wouldn't be that easy. He'd have to fight his urges constantly;
