CHAPTER FIVE

Jazz and Andre sat in the lounge at Caesar’s Palace.   Stephanie Deevers sat across from them.   Stephanie swiped through the pictures on the
phone, and then looked at her two guests.
“There’s more where those came from,” Jazz said.   “That’s just a sample.”
Stephanie was a very elegant woman.   It surprised Jazz that she would need to be
anybody’s number two.   But she wasn’t
denying their allegations.   “What do you
want?” she asked.
“We want you to work with us,” Jazz said.   “As soon as his wife sees these photos, your
days as his lover are over.   As somebody
who knows the Gabrinis personally, and have for many years, there’s one thing I
know for certain: if it comes down to his lover or his wife, he’s going to
choose his wife every time.   Make no
mistake about that.   I’ve seen him drop
lovers left and right down through the years.   Trina, his wife, is the only consistent lady that’s ever been in his
life.”
Stephanie continued to stare at Jazz.   She knew nothing of who she was in Reno’s
life, and what she meant to Reno.   She
was counting on Reno’s love, but not for the reasons this one meant.
“We did our research,” Andre said, when Stephanie said
nothing.   “We know you’ve recently fell
on hard times.   We know you recently
filed for bankruptcy.”
    Stephanie frowned.   It
was a raw subject for her.   “What is that
your business?” she asked angrily.   “That
is my business!”
“Reno is Trina’s business,” Jazz said, “but that doesn’t stop
you from fucking him.   So don’t talk to
us about business, lady.   You aren’t
exactly Clean Hands Sue , either.”
Stephanie let out a harsh exhale.   “What do you want from me?” she asked.
“When Gabrini dumps you, and he will, you can be out in the
cold,” Andre said.   “Or you can be out in
the cold with something to show for your efforts.”
Stephanie stared at them.   “Such as?”
“Big money,” Jazz said.   “You team up with us and you can have all of the money you could ever
dream of having.   You team up with us and
we can turn your little temporary fling with Reno Gabrini into a lifetime of
riches and power.”
“And how would you accomplish that?” Stephanie asked.
“Let us worry about that part,” Jazz said.   “We just need your cooperation.   We just need to catch Reno in the act.”
“But if you turn on us,” Andre said, “if you think you can
double cross us by running to Reno behind our backs, please know it won’t
work.   Please know that we have inside
guys.   They will know right away if you
pull that shit.   Just like we were able
to get these photographs of you with Reno, including the ones showing him going
into that little motel room you two keep on the side, our people will know if
you’re onboard or not.”
Stephanie smiled, and then laughed.   “Onboard with you?” she asked.   “You miss my reason for being entirely.   I don’t need to get onboard with you and your
little cockamamie scheme.   You need to
get onboard with me! For I’m not flying by the seat of my pants the way you two
are.   I’m not playing checkers against
chest masters.   Reno Gabrini is the love
of my life. Always has been since I can remember.   But she came along, this Katrina, and stole
his heart from me.   We never were close
again.   I despise him now.   That is why I came to him.   You misunderstand my motives entirely.”
Jazz saw hope now.   This woman hated Reno too.
“But you add an intriguing element,” Stephanie said as if she
was thinking it through even as she spoke.   “One I did not consider.   I was
only after revenge.   But revenge and
money?”   She began nodding.   “Now that could sweeten the pot.”
    Jazz smiled.   Revenge
with money.   That
