are on vacation after all.”
They were definitely up to something. Maybe they wanted her out of the house for some reason. She heard a girl squeal from next door. It could have something to do with them. Whatever. She wasn’t going to waste any time getting involved with their schemes. A beer and a little reading did sound kind of nice. She was about halfway through one of her paranormal romance books and things were starting to heat up. Maybe she would read for a while then go take a bath and tend to herself. “Okay,” she said.
    “Yeah?” John said. “Cool.”
They went in the kitchen and started talking about the girls again, banging the cabinets open and closed.
Tammy found her large floppy hat and book then went out on the back deck. She could see the girls next door out on their own deck, sunbathing in their skimpy bikinis, talking to each other and sipping at wine glasses. They didn’t seem like sluts to her. The umbrella and chair were setup just like John had said. Maybe he was turning over a new leaf and this month wouldn’t be so bad.
She looked out over the blue lake to all the people boating and skiing and having a good time. Yeah, this was going to be a good vacation, she decided. And right now she was going to read about some shifters having crazy sex with each other. She sat down in the chair and the last thing she remembered was falling backwards, flailing her arms, trying to grab at anything to keep from hitting the ground.
    ***
When Tammy opened her eyes, John and Brad were kneeling down next to her with concerned looks on their faces. Her head was pounding. Then they both looked at each other and started laughing, standing up.
What the hell happened? The last thing she remembered was coming outside to read and now she was laying on top of a broken chair with her head against the hard wooden deck. Lifting her head slightly, she put her hand beneath it and felt a bump starting to form. The boys cackling overhead gave her a decent idea of what went down. One of their favorite pastimes was playing pranks on her.
“Oh man,” John said, having trouble speaking because he was laughing so hard. “That was amazing. You scared us there for a second sis. Wow. You were out cold!”
She managed to stand up but felt dizzy so she sat back down on the deck. The back legs of the chair looked like they’d been sawed down. “Please tell me you didn’t purposely booby trap the chair and make me go unconscious,” she said, glaring at them.
They just kept laughing, Brad to the point where tears were coming out of eyes.
“Assholes! I probably have a concussion now,” she yelled at them.
“Relax,” John said, “I’m sure you’re fine. You should have seen yourself fall backwards though. Your arms were waving around like you were trying to fly. Like something straight out of   a cartoon!”
She tried standing again, this time feeling a bit more sure on her feet. The pain in her head seemed like it was going away also. These two bastards were still laughing their heads off though.
“God, you’re so fucking immature,” she said.
“Oh come on, can’t you take a joke?” John said.
“Bite me!” she yelled, staring at him hard with her hands clinched tight into fists, feeling like she might actually punch him in the nose.
Brad kept laughing but John stopped abruptly. He had a kind of dazed look on his face and he started to walk towards her, his head cocked to the side.
Tammy stood her ground, not wanting to let him intimidate her.
Then he was right in her space, not grinning at all. He had his arms out like he was going to hug her, plodding forward.
She put her fists up, ready to take him out if she needed to but then he grabbed her shoulders tightly, leaning forward and to the side of her head like he was going to say something in her ear. Her body tightened and her hands went to his chest, bracing herself to push him away. Then the most bizarre thing happened–he bit her
