and looked over at Jasper. “Hi, Jasper.”
“I’ll give you queen. Bite me, Kota.” Jasper stuck his tongue out.
Kota laughed. He knew wolves had exceptional hearing. He didn’t care, as long as his mate was comfortable. Everyone else introduced themselves. Blair took an instant liking to Cecil and Johnny. Kota had to actually be introduced to Johnny. He had been gone while Hawk

played patty-cake. “Where is that big brute anyway?”
“Right here, old friend.” Hawk slapped his back as he shook his hand.
“Congrats on your mate.”
“Same to you it seems. Hi. I’m Hawk.” Hawk extended his hand to Blair, who hesitantly took it.
Hawk was an intimidating man. Blair thought Kota was, but Hawk took the cake hands down. He tucked his hair behind his ear and lowered his eyes. He felt Kota tap the small of his back, he raised his head again.
“Cecil, Johnny, can you show Blair around? I need to talk to Maverick.” Kota kissed his mate, running his finger along his jaw.
“Sure, Dakota . No prob.” Cecil was conspiring with Remi.
“Little shit.” Kota kissed Blair again then walked to Maverick’s office.
He stretched out in the leather chair in front of the mahogany desk, finally taking a deep breath. Part of his mind was worrying about his mate. Was he doing okay? Was he scared? He knew he was in good hands with the two pint-size mates, but he still worried though. Kota was missing him already.
“So, you wanna tell me about this wild goose chase you sent me on?”
Maverick chuckled.
So the bastard did send him on one. Why? Kota sat forward, pissed.
“Figured me out, huh?” Maverick sat back, pulling on his soul patch, watching Kota.
“Might I ask why I was sent on a dummy mission?”
“Still trying to figure it out myself. All I know is I had a dream that you needed to go there. And before you ask, I started having them 46

after I mated Cecil, and I don’t have a clue why.” Maverick stood and walked over to the window, clasping his hands behind his back as he stared out into the back garden.
“I had a dream that showed me you searching for someone. I saw your mate, although I didn’t know who he was at the time. I knew the dream was real just now when I met Blair. It was the strangest thing, Kota. I saw exit signs telling me the city you were in, the hotel where you stayed, and even the places you were searching. Somehow the dream conveyed to me to not tell you and find a way to get you there.
I’m sorry, old friend. I never meant to deceive you.” Maverick was still staring out of the window, as if the answer lay outside. He had a faraway look.
How could Kota be mad? He had found his mate on this ghost mission. He only wished Maverick had told him about the dream.
Searching all those dives had frustrated the shit out of him. Made him think he was losing his touch. A thought occurred to him. He didn’t know if he wanted to know the answer though.
“What else did this dream show you?” Did it show him how Blair made a living? He wasn’t ashamed of his mate, but he didn’t want his mate to become self-conscious that others knew. The guy already had a rough road ahead of him with his self-esteem issues at the top of his list.
“Anything else I was shown is no one else’s business but yours and your mate’s.”
Well, hell. That answered his question now, didn’t it? He wanted to ask Maverick another reason he had sought him out on his arrival home. “He has a brother. I feel it best to bring him here…where it’s safer for him. I can’t tell you why without breaking Blair’s confidence, which I’m not willing to do. Will you help?”
Maverick turned from the window, a smile quirked his lip.
“About that—”
“Let me guess. You had a dream?”
Maverick gave him a full smile this time. Smug bastard.
