    Cassie sat on her bed, guilt filling her to the point she wanted to puke.  She eyed the phone.  Despairingly, she dialed the number, her hand shaking unsteadily as the phone rang.
    “ Robby?  I’ m sorry I woke yo u …”
    “ Cass?  Are you okay ?” Rob asked, sitting up suddenly in bed, fully alert.  He glanced at the clock.  It was 4:45 in the morning.  Cassie started crying.
    “ I screwed up really bad.  I’ m so sorry.  I do n’ t know what to do.  I’ m scared . ”
    “ Shhh, breathe.  Tha t’ s a gir l… Calm down.  Tell me what happened?  Are you hurt?  Is Glenn alright ?” His heart pounded with fear.
    “ W e’ re fine.  Yo u’ re going to kill me.  I t’ s not Glen n’ s fault, I tricked him ,” she whispered. 
    Rob took a deep breath as she unfolded the events to him.  “ W e’ ll deal with this when I get home, Cassandra.  I’ m very upset with you right now.  You deserve a mighty switching for this.  Especially since this is your second pot offense.  I do n’ t know what to do with you !” he said, trying to stay calm as he flexed his fists.
    Cassie swallowed hard.  “ I know.  I’ m really sorry.  I thought that if I told you right awa y …”
    “ I’ d be more lenient?  No, but I do appreciate your honesty.  I will take that into consideration.  I’ m just glad yo u’ re alright.  You could have been seriously hurt, even raped.  Especially under the influence.  Cass, yo u’ re smarter than this.  I’ m so disappointed in you.  I thought we were moving beyond your defiance issues . ”   He sounded sad.
    Another sob caught in Cassi e’ s throat as she profusely apologized over and over.  Rob listened carefully.  So, the little brat was finally learning to accept responsibility for her actions.  But then, she was a very convincing little actress and a consummate liar.  He knew better than to let his guard down with her.
    “ Sweetheart, please calm down.  Yo u’ re going to make yourself sick.  I want you to go take a hot shower, drink a lot of water and then get to bed.  W e’ ll talk more in the morning.  I’ ll call you first thing .” His voice was soothing and gentle.  He surprised himself with his own acting abilities; he wanted, more than anything, to give her a piece of his mind as well as a good, solid dose of his belt across her little backside.  If she had ever deserved a good bun warming, it was now, and by God she was going to get one!
    “ Promise yo u’ ll call ?” the girl asked in a tiny voice.  Rob tried not to sound as surprised as he felt.  She actually wanted to talk with him!  Maybe he was making progress, although with the little manipulator he could n’ t decide exactly how much.
    “ I promise.  Now mind me.  I love you, baby girl . ”
    “ I love you too, Robby.  I miss you . ”
