logged on to the Internet and started researching ways to start my own business.
Hope burst in my room. âSis, can I borrow your car?â
âYou and this bad habit of not knocking are getting old. Respect my space.â
âI respect your space. Youâre always in here by yourself. When you start having male company, Iâll knock.â
âWhatever.â I continued surfing online without looking at Hope. âWhatâs wrong with your car?â
âIâm low on gas and I donât feel like going by the gas station.â
I looked up from my computer screen. âYou got your nerve. You better dig into your pretty little pocket and buy your own gas.â
Hope frowned. âYouâre such a mean older sister.â
I threw the âtalk to the handâ sign in the air. âCall me what you want, but you are not using my car.â
âFine. Iâll leave you to doing whatever it is youâre doing.â
âIâm starting my own business. If youâre nice, Iâll let you be my assistant.â
Hope rolled her neck. âI donât think so.â
She left my room without shutting my door. I opened my mouthto say something to her, but decided to ignore her and went back to my research.
After spending another hour on the computer, Iâd found everything I needed to get started. Mahogany Event Planning was about to be in business.
I hit the print button, but a red flashing box filled my screen. âUgh. I hate when that happens.â I was out of ink and I needed to print out the form so I could mail it in to register my business name.
I slipped on some shoes and rushed out to the office supply store. I wanted to get the form printed and in the mail no later than tomorrow.
âExcuse me,â I said, when my basket accidentally bumped into a familiar face.
âSo, we meet again.â Tyler rubbed his leg.
âSorry. I should have been looking where I was going.â
âIâll forgive you, if youâll have dinner with me.â
I couldnât think of an excuse. I did feel bad for hitting his leg with my cart. âSure. Meet me at Copelandâs. In fact, letâs go now since Iâm out.â
He looked at his watch. âNow? Itâs only four oâclock.â
âNow or never.â I shrugged my shoulders.
âThe lady wins. Iâll meet you over there.â
âSure thing. Iâll be on my way as soon as I pay for my stuff.â
Twenty minutes later, I pulled up in the Copelandâs parking lot. Tyler stood outside waiting for me.
âI thought you stood me up.â He greeted me with a hug.
âNo. I would have called you if I changed my mind,â I assured him.
Itâd been awhile since Iâd gone out on a date. Things with my last boyfriend didnât end well, and honestly it was hard for me to trust men after that experience. Tyler came across as a smoothoperator, so I knew I would have to keep my guard up with him.
âYouâre one of the most beautiful women Iâve ever had the pleasure of meeting,â Tyler said.
âThank you.â I didnât know what else to say. Normally guys went crazy over Hope and her looks.
âI hope this wonât be the last time we talk.â Tyler looked at me like I was Miss America.
âIt doesnât have to be.â I tilted my head and batted my eyes.
âYou have me at a disadvantage. You have my number, but I donât have yours. My phoneâs been glued to my hip waiting for your call.â
I laughed out loud. âIâm sure you get plenty of calls.â
He winked his eye. âBut none were from you. Youâre who I want.â
âTyler, letâs cut to the chase. Youâre a handsome man. I can tell from how you dress that youâre doing quite well for yourself. Finding a woman isnât a problem for you.â
âYouâre correct.â He looked around the
