She suspected he hadn’t slept with her. She found a note on his pillow saying he had to go out early but she could make herself at home and his housekeeper would make her breakfast.
She tried not to let it bother her that he had left her and hadn’t even slept in the bed with her. At least, she realized her place in his world. She got up, found her clothing and put them on.
She managed to make her way to the kitchen he had shown her last night. It was very modern and had a pristine feeling to it. She was greeted by an older woman whom she assumed was the housekeeper.
“Good morning, miss. Would you like breakfast?” she asked.
“Sure. Thank you. My name’s Kristen, by the way,” she said with a smile to ease the tension she felt.
“I’m Sara. Mr. Logan had informed me of your presence. What would you like? We have a little bit of everything.”
“A bagel would be fine, thank you.”
Sara left Kristen alone to eat. As she finished she remembered she had ridden over with Logan. She went to find Sara because Kristen was sure Logan had an answer for that as well. He took care of the women he discarded anyway.
“Did Logan say how I was supposed to get home?” she asked.
“Yes, the car is waiting with a driver downstairs. He’ll take you anywhere you need to go,” Sara said with a smile.
Kristen wanted to explain to her that she wasn’t like the other women but it sounded ridiculous even to her own ears.
“Thank you,” Kristen said and made her way downstairs.
The driver opened the door for her and he already had the directions from last night. She kept the privacy screen up because she wanted to be alone with her thoughts. When they arrived at her place, she went upstairs and got into the shower. Kimberly wasn’t up yet and she would want all the details when she woke up. Kristen wanted to get out of there before she had to explain something she didn’t understand to her friend.
Kristen managed to get out of the house without waking Kimberly. She drove to work and Shanna was already there, busy. Kristen just went into her office and buried herself in her job.
Logan came in around eleven as if nothing had happened. Kristen was in a meeting with a neighborhood man who had been very helpful with the kids. He was a reformed former gang member and he wanted the same for the youth in his community.
When Logan walked in, Kristen had to work hard to concentrate on what Carlos was saying. Carlos was handsome and impressive in his own right, but next to Logan, everyone paled. Carlos brought her out of her haze.
“Kristen, would you like to have dinner with me sometime? We could talk a little more about the project and we can get to know one another a little better.”
Kristen started to say, “No,” and let him down easy but when she saw Logan shake his head and glare at her, she became angry.
How dare he march in and eavesdrop on her conversation, make it clear she was just sex to him and then act like he can tell her who she can have dinner with as if he owned her?
“Yes. I would love to have dinner with you,” she said with a smile more for Logan than Carlos.
“Would tomorrow night be okay?” Carlos asked.
“Sure.”
Carlos looked disbelieving and thrilled. As soon as he walked out, Logan stormed into Kristen’s office and closed the door. The look on his face should have scared Kristen but it didn‘t. Her defiant look seemed to fuel his anger.
“You are not going out with him,” Logan ordered.
“Yes, I’m. You don’t own me and you have made it pretty clear you don’t want a relationship so I can date whomever I please. I can have sex with whomever I please,” she added, her anger bubbling to the surface.
He grabbed her and yanked her to him. His fingers bit into her flesh and she tried to pull away.
“I do own you. You’re mine.” He kissed her hard, bruising her lips in the process.
