getting her words out properly. As a matter of fact, she could barely even look him in his sexy, inquisitive eyes.

“What seems to be the problem?” he continued, walking toward the car and around to the hood.

“It’s my engine. It died. The car is so old and I’ve driven it all the way here from the east coast, so…I guess I just wore it out.”

“The east coast, huh,” the man said, reaching inside of the driver’s window and popping the hood. “Let me take a quick look and see what’s going on.”

Lily walked around to the front of the car and stood next to the man as he looked around underneath the hood. She inhaled deeply and relished in the intoxicating, woodsy scent of his cologne. He must have noticed how close she was standing to him, because he looked over at her curiously then gave her a slight smile.

“I’m Geech, by the way. I work for The Dark Angels Towing Company. And you are?”

“Lily. Lily Winters,” she smiled shyly, reaching out and shaking his extended hand. His large palms engulfed her petite hand, and his strong grip sent shivers of sexual energy down her spine.

“It’s very nice to meet you, Lily,” he replied, holding her hand for several seconds longer than necessary. When he finally let go, he looked back down inside of her car slowly and fiddled around with several wires. Lily remained next to him, still standing closer than necessary. When his arm would accidentally brush up against her full bosom, she did not back away. And when he leaned over in her direction and reached out to check her oil, she didn’t budge as his thigh pressed against her leg. Finally, after a few more minutes of Geech looking around underneath the hood, he stood up and looked directly over at Lily.

“Well, the bad news is it isn’t looking too good for your car. This isn’t anything that I can repair right here on the spot. But the good news is I can tow your car into the shop, and we can take a closer look there and figure out what’s going on and what needs to be done in order to get it back up and running.”

“That sounds great. I really appreciate your help, Geech,” Lily smiled, feeling as though she had been sent a guardian angel to help get her out of the huge, dangerous mess that she had gotten herself into, which had her fleeing New York in such a hurry in the first place.

“Don’t mention it. I’ll get your car hitched to the truck and get it towed to the shop. If we can’t get it fixed tonight, there’s a motel right next door to the shop and a diner right across the street. The motel is pretty inexpensive, and it’s clean and comfortable. And the service at the diner it great, plus the food is really good. So even if you do end up having to spend the night in Amber before you head off to your final destination, you’ll be taken care of.”

Lily inhaled deeply after taking everything in that Geech had just told her. As he headed back to the truck, got inside, and drove it around to the front of her car, she walked over and stood on the sidewalk. Lily did not have the time or the money to stay over in Amber. She needed to get out of the public eye and hide away at her sister’s place as soon as possible, just in case any of her New York ties came looking for her. But at this point, thanks to her decrepit car, all she could do was remain at the mercy of Geech and his mechanics and hope that he could get her back up and running tonight.

Once Geech got her car hooked to the tow truck, he led her to the passenger side of the truck and held her hand as she climbed inside. Then he ran around, hopped in on the driver’s side and pulled off. As they drove down the dark road, Geech made pleasant small talk with Lily. He kept it light and intentionally did not get too intrusive, and discussed things like her driving alone all the way from the east coast and the beautiful weather out west. Lily could tell that he wanted to delve in
