find me all the fucking time it seems.” I pretended as if I had no idea that Monty was killed.
“He's dead, bitch!” Isaiah slammed his hand onto the wall next to my head. I jumped so hard that I thought my head would tap the ceiling.
“Aye, what you yelling at her for, bro? You need to chill out before I call the campus police,” some random guy who was passing by said.
“Nigga, mind yo' muthafuckin' business before I dead your ass!” Isaiah barked back at him.
“Yeah, okay.” He gave a smirk as if he wasn’t afraid, but you could tell that he was. I was afraid too, which is why it seemed like my feet were glued to the space he had me in.
The boy walked off, and Isaiah turned his attention back down to me, waiting for a response to his last statement. I was so busy being scared, that I hadn’t thought of a good lie to tell.
“I didn't know he died Isaiah, he umm, what happened?” I continued playing the part.
“You know what the fuck happened! Someone told me your little bitch ass boyfriend is the one who popped him! You got some fucking nerve after all of the money my brother gave your hoe ass when you was shaking that skinny body in the clubs!”
“First of all, I'm not skinny, and secondly, I don't know what the fuck you're talking about. If Monty is dead, I'm sorry, but you need to spend more time figuring out who really killed him, and get the fuck out of my face, boy!” I nudged him and started to walk off, but he grabbed my wrist roughly. For some reason, him insulting my shape had angered me to the point where I’d gained some courage.
“Your days are numbered, hoe.” He threw me into the wall and then stormed off.
A sharp pain shot through my stomach, and I just took a couple deep breaths to calm down. The pain soon subsided, and I just silently thanked God.
I rushed out and snatched my sandwich off the counter, which was waiting to be picked up. I didn't want to eat in the food court, so I just rushed to my class and ate in there before everyone started to come in. After class, I texted Kantwan to let him know I had some shit to tell him, and then I sped home. I made it home about fifteen minutes later, since it was no traffic yet, and pulled right into the garage.
Not seeing Kantwan's car there irritated me, because that meant he didn't take my fucking text seriously. I began to get paranoid because I realized I didn't pay any attention to my surroundings on the way home. I just sped here, and didn't even make sure I wasn't being followed. What if he’s here, outside waiting for me? What if I just gave up our home address to this nigga? I asked myself as I damn near bit my nails down to the white meat. That evil looking ass nigga had me on edge. I quickly just hopped out of the car, ran inside, put the alarm on, and then darted up the steps as if I was Florence Joyner.
As I paced my bedroom, the door opened causing me to scream. When I saw it was just Kantwan, I placed my hand over my heart and exhaled heavily. I was not hip to this gangster life! By the confused look on his face, I could tell he thought I was losing my fucking mind. Shit, I didn't care what he thought, as long as he took care of Isaiah.
    “You good, ma?” he asked.
“Kantwan, you have to kill Monty's brother!”
“What? Who the fuck is Monty?”
“The dude that you saved me from in the van that night! He... his brother... they—”
“Cheyla, sit down and calm the fuck down so you can talk properly. And calm down for the baby in your stomach, shorty. As hyped up as you are, it can't be good for my kid.” Kantwan sat me down gently on the edge of the bed before he knelt down.
After a couple deep breaths, I said, “Okay, Monty is the guy that you saved me from that night. He has two brothers, and one of them, named Isaiah, threatened me today. He told me that he was gonna get me back for setting his brother up. I tried to explain that it didn't happen that way!”
“Cheyla, baby, please tell me you
